As a young man I was an enthusiastic sailor competing through the age groups in a variety of boats from 3.5m dinghies to 20m keelers. At 17 I gained my RYA Yachtmaster qualification and used that to crew on the famous Fastnet Race.
Shortly after arriving in New Zealand my wife and I had the first of three children and my interests began to reflect a desire to be at home as much as possible. I started cycling and this passion has endured. I was privileged to organise a charity bike ride in 2017 during the British Lions Tour that combined cycling with my other passion – rugby. We raised over $100 000 for charity and I continue to be involved with similar endeavours today.
