My medical education started in 1988 when I was accepted at The London Hospital Medical School, Whitechapel, London. I graduated 6 years later and began the gruelling junior doctor rotations that gave me the foundations to enter a career in anaesthesia. After successfully passing the final part of the anaesthetic fellowship examinations in 2001 I was fortunate to choose New Zealand as a temporary home while I completed the vocational part of the training. I returned to the U.K. but knew that I would return and in 2005 I began a career as an Anaesthetic Specialist at Middlemore Hospital where I work still today.
Middlemore Hospital, like The London Hospital in England, is a busy and challenging place to work. Providing front line anaesthetic services through times of crisis such as the White Island eruption, and more recently the Covid-19 pandemic demands a broad range of advanced skills. Middlemore Hospital also has an extensive elective surgery department. Every week I provide anaesthetic services for a diverse range of surgeries including ORL, cancer, and weight loss surgery.
Private practice allows me the opportunity to care for patients throughout their surgical experience. I am able to deliver a package of care that involves pre-operative advice as well as comprehensive pain management in the post-operative period in addition to the core theatre based responsibilities . These roles are fragmented in the public system and so continuation of care is often not possible. I collaborate closely with Discover Weight Loss, Omnicare Women’s Health, The Macmurray Centre and The ENT Group in particular. I am a partner at the Epsom Anaesthetic Partnership and can be contacted there on 09 524 5135.
